OUR STORY

Founded by Nicole Redinbaugh in early 2023, we set out to be different than other area networking groups by prioritizing genuine relationships and consistently providing free resources for our community and individual members.

What types of meetings and events does SBOA offer?

SBOA offers several ways for members and guests to connect, learn, and build relationships. Participation can look different depending on your availability, goals, and level of involvement.

Recurring Chapter Meetings
These are the core of SBOA and are held in person by each chapter, typically every other week. Meetings are one hour in length and focus on:

Relationship-driven networking:

- Guided discussions or educational topics

- Collaboration and shared learning

- Some chapters offer optional informal networking time before or after meetings when space allows.

Quarterly Open House Events

Quarterly Open Houses are larger, more social events designed to:

- Welcome new faces

- Reconnect members across chapters

- Build community beyond regular meetings

- Provide opportunities to host vendor tables for sponsors

These events are open to a broader audience and are not restricted by industry seats.

Virtual Co-Working Sessions

Virtual co-working provides a “body-doubling” style work session for those who want accountability and focused time. Sessions typically include:

- A short goal-setting introduction

- Independent work time

- A brief accountability wrap-up

These sessions are open to Facebook group members and guests, with advance registration requested.

Educational Seminars & Workshops
SBOA occasionally hosts educational events led by members or trusted professionals. These sessions may focus on business strategy, marketing, technology, leadership, or other topics relevant to small business owners.

Social & Recreational Events
From casual meetups to family-friendly gatherings, SBOA hosts occasional social events to strengthen relationships outside of structured networking. These are typically low-cost, optional, and designed to be inclusive.

Volunteer Opportunities

We believe in giving back to our community and do our best to host volunteer events where we can actively serve together. Anyone is welcome to attend these events, unless specific age restrictions are provided in the event details.

One-to-One Meetings
SBOA strongly encourages one-to-one meetings between members outside of regular events. These conversations help deepen trust, clarify how members can support each other, and build meaningful long-term relationships.

Who can attend an SBOA meeting as a guest?

SBOA meetings and events are open to local small business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals who serve the Greater Omaha Metro area. Guests do not need to be members to attend and are welcome to visit a chapter to see if the group is a good fit.

Is there a cost to being a part of SBOA?

No. There are no required fees, dues, or purchases to attend a regular chapter meeting or open house event as either a visitor or member.

For certain educational workshops or quarterly events with food, we may ask for a small contribution to help fund the event. Details will be clearly outlined, if so, in the event sign up.

Do I need to register in advance, or can I just show up?

Advanced registration is strongly encouraged when available, as it helps chapter leaders plan and welcome guests appropriately. You can register by signing up online here.

That said, walk-ins are generally welcome when space allows. If you’re unsure, you may also contact a chapter leader or email [email protected].

How many times can I attend as a guest?

Guests are typically welcome to attend two or three meetings per chapter before deciding whether to pursue in-person membership. Additional visits may be approved at the discretion of the Chapter President.

There are not limits to attending quarterly or other supplemental events.

Are there industry restrictions for guests?

SBOA chapters typically maintain one approved in-person seat per industry. If your business overlaps with an existing chapter member, your visit may be reviewed by the Chapter President before confirmation. This helps ensure a balanced, collaborative environment while still allowing guests to participate.

What should I expect at my first meeting?

SBOA chapter meetings are relationship-driven and welcoming. Meetings generally include:

- Open networking and introductions

- Group discussion or educational segments

- Opportunities to share what you do and what you’re looking for

There are no forced pitches or high-pressure sales expectations. We usually do not have food or drink provided except for special occasions, but there may be options available for purchase, depending on the meeting venue.

What is expected of guests while attending?

Guests are expected to:

- Be respectful and professional

- Participate constructively

- Honor confidentiality of information shared

- Follow SBOA’s Code of Conduct

SBOA maintains a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or discriminatory behavior.

What should I bring to a meeting?

Business cards are helpful but optional. Come ready to introduce yourself, listen, and engage in meaningful conversation. Some people may choose to bring a notebook or laptop to take notes with, as desired.
